The Karst House Museum Collection

Collection dedicated to the material folk culture of the Karst.

The ethnological collection of the Karst House is arranged in a simple house at the crossroads of the upper streets of Štanjel, in the so-called "Roman house". The collection is dedicated to the material folk culture of the Karst. The carefully restored house is a memorial to the resourcefulness of the simple inhabitants, who mainly used stone for construction. The roof is covered with stone slabs and rainwater flows across them into stone gutters and then into the monumental public well next to it. This is the most picturesque and vivid story about the importance of water for the Karst. The building, which is supposedly one of the oldest in Štanjel, represents the architectural features of the original Karst houses, built in the Roman and Gothic periods.

Get to know the story of the Karst man by listening to the Kamishibai story From stone to the karst house.
