Maks Fabiani was one of the most important urban planners in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and an innovator in architecture at the turn of the 20th century. He left an indelible mark on Štanjel during his 20-year period in office as the mayor. His greatest legacy is the renovation of the Ferrari Villa and the design of the Ferrari Garden with its innovative water supply system.

What’s included?

A visit to the Štanjel Castle which was completely renovated by the then Mayor Maks Fabiani between 1936 and 1938.
A visit to the exhibition about Maks Fabiani the architect, urban planner, mayor, inventor, writer, intellectual and humanist.
A visit to the Ferrari Garden which is best known for its pond with a small island. The water is supplied all the way up to the peak of the hill by means of Fabiani’s greatest invention. With a system of water tanks and supply pipes, the Ferrari Villa and its garden were provided with their own fresh water used not only for their basic needs but also for entertainment and decorative purposes. A special feature of the water supply system is that it connects the peak of the Turn Hill with the pond and thus covers the entire village.
