The local Venček society preserves the old folk tradition of making wreaths of St John. This custom is based on the popular belief that the plants picked hold a special superpower. The locals used to make wreaths with love and then hung them on their front doors to protect their homes from bad luck and to attract good luck. Find out more about this beautiful old Karst custom that is also listed in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

The Karst Goblins is a family adventure in Štanjel which takes children and parents alike on a journey into this wonderful Karst world. The original story entitled “The Dwarfs from the Karst”, written by Uroš Grilc and illustrated by Zvonko Čoh, is an eco-conscious story about mischievous dwarfs who play a trick on the villagers of Štanjel where everything is turned upside down. They hid dwarf seals throughout the “Karst of the Dwarfs” and cast magic dwarf spells all around. And now the Karst needs your help.
