The exhibit is the final result of the course held by Silva Perčič at SKD Rdeča zvezda. After the 2022 Karst Wedding, enthusiasm for traditional costumes has grown significantly, especially among young people. Therefore, the course was a very welcome idea and extremely well accepted, too.
Women and girls invested endless hours of punctilious work in the articles, and by doing so, they discovered their handicraft, the magic and symbolism of the national costumes, but especially of the embroidery. They chose meaningful motifs and waved in their wishes, memories and experiences. Above all, like our predecessors, they put a lot of love and soul into their work.
The new costumes were modelled after old samples, so SKD Rdeča zvezda set itself an important goal: to catalogue old costumes that are already showing signs of wear. This led to the project called 'The female soul in colour and embroidery’, which provided sewing courses, children’s workshops, various meetings and exhibitions. At the end of the project, Silva Perčič published a book with the same title which attracted great interest and had to be reprinted.
The desire to preserve and restore national costumes and their embroidery has grown significantly in recent decades, even among young people who increasingly recognize their roots, identity, and inspiration for creativity in these traditions.
